The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and its Auxiliary are proud to join a grateful nation in commemorating National Vietnam War Veterans Day, March 29, and celebrate the millions Vietnam era veterans on the fifth anniversary of the holiday. National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed annually on March 29 in the United States. It is a national observance that recognizes veterans who served in the US military during the Vietnam War. March 29 is National Vietnam Veterans day. VA thanks and honors our approximately 7 million living Vietnam Veterans and the 10 million families of those who served during the Vietnam War period. Since the birth of the United States, no single generation of Americans has been spared the responsibility of defending freedom by force of arms. On National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we honor all those who bravely served in the Vietnam War and who sacrificed, as did their families and caregivers, on behalf of our Nation. Each September, posters are distributed to schools, state governments, Veterans Day Regional Sites, the military services, and veterans service organizations. It was chosen to be observed in perpetuity as March 29, 1973 was the day United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disestablished and also the day the last U.S. combat troops departed Vietnam. American Legion Post 275 in Chicopee will be among several veteran organizations to host the city’s first National Vietnam War Veterans Day to honor the 15 servicemembers from Chicopee who died during the war and the nearly 2,000 Vietnam veterans living in the area. The Vietnam War Commemoration is conducted according to the 2008 National Defense Authorization Act to help honor and pay tribute to Vietnam Veterans and their families.
