"What happened at Pearl Harbor was the start of a long and terrible war for America. On this Veterans Day, we honor the courage of those who were lost in our current struggle. We think of the families who lost a loved one. We pray for their comfort. Some patrolled the open skies. And all contributed to the character and to the greatness of America. On this Veterans Day, we honor a new generation of men and women who are defending our freedom. Since September the 11th, 2001, our Armed Forces have engaged the enemy, the terrorists on many fronts. Free nations are in debt to the long, distinguished line of American veterans, and all Americans owe our veterans our liberty.
