After many months of planning, which commenced on ANZAC Day 2003, the Memorial Project was officially launched in April 2004 with a car raffle and public appeal. Vietnam veterans have continued to fight for fair and meaningful outcomes for their comrades and those who have served since. Today we acknowledge this tireless work and thank those who served and continue to serve to this day. Vietnam Veterans' Day is commemorated annually on 18 August, which is the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan – one of the most significant conflicts for Australians who served in the Vietnam War. These activities will lead into a national commemorative service on Vietnam Veterans’ Day, 18 August 2023, recognising the service of all Australians in the Vietnam War and honouring the sacrifices that they and their families made.
