Adelaide On Sunday 18 August, the Vietnam War Commemorative Service was conducted by a group of ex-service organisations at the Vietnam War Memorial adjacent to Torrens Parade Ground, Adelaide. Two hundred veterans and friends paid their respects, with Her Excellency the Governor and Mr Bunten attending. Vietnam Veterans' Day is commemorated annually on 18 August, which is the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan – one of the most significant conflicts for Australians who served in the Vietnam War. Vietnam Veterans’ Day provides South Australians an opportunity to pause to remember and reflect on the experiences of the 60,000 men and women who served our nation throughout the Vietnam War. These activities will lead into a national commemorative service on Vietnam Veterans’ Day, 18 August 2023, recognising the service of all Australians in the Vietnam War and honouring the sacrifices that they and their families made. After many months of planning, which commenced on ANZAC Day 2003, the Memorial Project was officially launched in April 2004 with a car raffle and public appeal. We remember the sacrifices of those who died and say thank you to almost 60,000 Australians who served during the 10 years of our involvement in the Vietnam War.
